Smoke from Russian oil terminal fire may reach Finland today
Smoke from a fire at a Russian oil terminal near the Finnish border could drift into eastern Finland on Wednesday, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute.
The Koivisto oil terminal, located on the Gulf of Finland coast about 100 kilometres from the Finnish border, was struck by a Ukrainian attack earlier this week. Winds initially carried the smoke eastward, but a shift to southerly winds may now direct it toward Finland.
Officials stated that cloudy weather would likely prevent the smoke from being visible in Finland. The Meteorological Institute also reassured that the smoke poses no expected health risk to residents. Authorities would issue immediate warnings if hazardous conditions were detected.
