Police suspect 13-year-old girl of stabbing another teen in Kouvola park
Police in southeastern Finland are investigating a suspected attempted murder after a 13-year-old girl allegedly stabbed a 14-year-old in a Kouvola park on Tuesday evening, public broadcaster Yle reports.
The incident occurred in Salpa Park in central Kouvola, where the victim sustained serious injuries and was hospitalised for further treatment. According to preliminary witness and victim statements, the suspect—a 13-year-old girl—is believed to have carried out the attack with a knife.
Detective Chief Inspector Kimmo Kostiainen of the Southeast Finland Police stated that the violence stemmed from pre-existing conflicts between the minors involved. “This is an extremely serious case, but it is not a random act of violence. Young people should not fear going outside because of this,” Kostiainen said in a police statement.
Several other underage youths were present in the park at the time and witnessed the assault. Police have interviewed these eyewitnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.
The case remains under active investigation, with updates expected as further details emerge.
