The Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman has imposed a €5,000 fine on Suomen Numerokeskus, a company managing an online phone directory, for failing to provide customers with recordings of their service calls upon request, Yle reports.

An investigation by the ombudsman’s office found that the company had neglected customers’ legal right to access recordings of calls concerning them. Under Finnish law, customers are entitled to receive a copy of such recordings, either as an audio file or a written transcript.

The case stemmed from six complaints filed with the authority. Customers reported that the company had refused to provide call recordings they had requested to dispute invoices. Despite multiple inquiries from the ombudsman’s office, the company failed to correct its practices.

The Data Protection Ombudsman subsequently issued the fine for the violation.
