Finns ate record amount of cucumber last year
Finns consumed a record 56 million kilograms of domestically grown cucumber in 2023, according to a report by Finnish public broadcaster Yle, citing data from the Finnish Market Gardeners’ Association.
The figure marks a two-million-kilogram increase from 2022, with each Finn eating roughly 10 kilograms—about 28 cucumbers—over the year. Nearly all cucumbers consumed in Finland are domestically produced, the association’s acting director, Lassi Remes, stated in a press release.
Greenhouse cucumbers are cultivated by 110 farms across the country.
No further details were provided on the factors behind the record consumption.
