Finnish police investigation into New Year’s Eve undersea cable damage to conclude this spring
The National Bureau of Investigation (KRP) expects to complete its probe into the New Year’s Eve undersea cable incident in the Gulf of Finland by spring, Yle reports, citing an interview with STT news agency.
According to Senior Detective Superintendent Risto Lohi, evidence strongly indicates that the damage to Elisa’s cable was caused by the anchor of the cargo vessel Fitburg. The incident occurred within Estonia’s economic zone.
Investigators continue to treat the case as aggravated criminal damage, attempted aggravated criminal damage, and aggravated disruption of telecommunications. Four individuals remain under suspicion, with one detained and three subject to travel bans.
The probe is ongoing, with further interviews and analysis of material seized from the vessel still required.
