Finnish education union issues strike warning to Metropolia University of Applied Sciences
The Trade Union of Education in Finland (OAJ) has issued a strike warning against Metropolia University of Applied Sciences after wage negotiations for the sector collapsed, the union announced Monday.
A 24-hour strike at the Helsinki-based institution could begin on April 8, according to OAJ’s statement. The dispute centres on the collective bargaining agreement for universities of applied sciences, which expires at the end of March.
OAJ rejected a proposal from Sivista, the employer representative, that included removing a so-called “availability supplement” – a change that would effectively cut pay for some teaching staff. Negotiations between the two parties have failed to reach a resolution.
The union’s warning comes as part of broader labour action in Finland’s education sector, with further updates expected as the situation develops.
