The Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health is drafting proposals to strengthen the language proficiency of care staff, particularly those who have moved to Finland from abroad, STT reports.

According to the ministry, deficiencies in language skills have been observed among foreign-born care workers. Minister Wille Rydman emphasised that language proficiency is a critical component of patient safety.

The initiative also aims to support employers in developing their staff’s language abilities. While the exact number of workers requiring language training has not been confirmed, estimates suggest around 3,000 employees may need improvement.

Further details on the planned measures have not yet been announced.
