Bomb squad called after suspicious object found in Bergen pedestrian tunnel
The bomb disposal unit has been summoned to Bergen after police discovered a suspicious object in a pedestrian tunnel beneath the E39 highway, Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet reports.
Police received an emergency call at 1:28 AM on Sunday regarding the object, which was found in the tunnel near Hopsbukta. Officers secured the area and assessed the item as potentially hazardous to handle, prompting the request for specialist assistance.
“The object is not currently considered a threat to the public or personnel,” operations manager Ole Ronny Olsen stated. However, due to risks during handling, the national bomb disposal team was called in from Oslo and is expected to arrive by late morning.
A police investigation has been launched, and the pedestrian tunnel remains closed, along with a nearby bus stop. The incident has not affected the road network.
