The Faroese parliament building in Tórshavn will be fully renovated starting Monday, with the project expected to cost 38 million Danish kroner, reports Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

The renovation work was tendered late last autumn, with the Faroese public works authority Landsverk signing a contract with construction company Kanjon to carry out the project. The work will involve stripping the building down to its concrete structure and installing new materials, including glass panels designed to last for decades.

The renovation will be completed in phases over the coming years, with completion expected by early next year. During the work, parliamentary sessions will temporarily relocate to a building owned by the Tórshavn labour association, which the parliament will lease for the duration.

Bjørt Samuelsen, Speaker of the Faroese Parliament, confirmed the plans in an interview with Kringvarp Føroya. The decision follows an emergency removal of all glass panels from the building’s annex last year.
