Teenage boarding school student killed in traffic accident near Lyngdal
A student at KVS boarding school in Lyngdal was killed in a traffic accident on Friday evening, the school’s principal confirmed on Saturday, calling the incident “profoundly affecting” for the community.
According to a statement from principal Ole Fladstad, the victim—a teenage boy—was struck by a car just metres from the school. The driver, a man in his 40s, has been questioned and charged with negligent homicide, Dagbladet reports.
“It is with great sorrow that we confirm one of our students lost their life in a traffic accident last night,” Fladstad wrote. “Our thoughts go first and foremost to the student’s family, friends, and loved ones during this extremely difficult time.”
Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision, while the municipality’s crisis response team and the school have activated support measures for students and staff. Classes were suspended on Saturday to focus on care for those affected.
“This is a heavy day for all of us,” Fladstad said. “Today will be entirely dedicated to our students and employees.”
