Swedish PM Magdalena Andersson’s voter trust drops sharply
A new opinion poll by Verian shows Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson’s (Social Democrats) voter trust has fallen significantly, narrowing the gap with opposition leader Ulf Kristersson (Moderates) to just four percentage points, SVT Nyheter reports.
Andersson has long held the highest trust ratings among party leaders, but her lead has shrunk from 26 points four years ago. Per Söderpalm, Verian’s opinion analyst, attributes the decline partly to shifting loyalties among centre-right voters.
“Her trust levels no longer provide the same relative strength for the Social Democrats,” Söderpalm told SVT, noting that debates on migration policy may have influenced opposition supporters.
Moderates leader Ulf Kristersson now ranks second in trust, followed closely by Sweden Democrats’ Jimmie Åkesson and Christian Democrats’ Ebba Busch. Liberal Party leader Simona Mohamsson remains last but saw a slight increase—though the survey was conducted before her party’s policy shift on potential cooperation with the Sweden Democrats.
The poll, based on 1,000 web interviews (ages 18–84) conducted November 17–23, asked respondents to rate their trust in each party leader.
