Danish students call for clearer academic expectations ahead of final exams
Students across Denmark are demanding clearer guidelines on academic requirements as they prepare for this year’s final exams, reports DR. Many say uncertainty over grading criteria is adding unnecessary stress in the lead-up to assessments.
The criticism comes as upper-secondary pupils voice frustration over inconsistent feedback from teachers about what constitutes a passing performance. According to student representatives, some schools provide detailed rubrics while others leave expectations vague, creating unequal preparation conditions.
“We’re not asking for the answers—just a fair chance to understand what’s being asked of us,” said a spokesperson for the Danish Gymnasial Student Organisation (DGS), which has raised the issue with education authorities. The group argues that transparent criteria would help reduce exam-related anxiety without compromising academic standards.
Education officials have acknowledged the concerns but note that individual schools retain autonomy over assessment methods. A review of exam guidelines is reportedly underway, though no timeline for changes has been announced.
