Finland secures €17 million from EU for drones and unmanned vessels

Finland will receive €17 million from the European Union to strengthen border surveillance along its eastern border and the Gulf of Finland.

The funding will be used to acquire drones and unmanned surface vessels capable of operating despite GPS jamming, the Finnish Border Guard announced on Friday. The investment is expected to significantly enhance the agency’s ability to monitor national borders, according to a statement from the Ministry of the Interior.

The EU allocated a total of €150 million in funding for border security and visa policy support across seven member states. In addition to Finland, the funds were also granted to Cyprus, Greece, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Spain.
