Finnish customs finds widespread irregularities in cosmetics imported from outside the EU
Finnish Customs has reported significant uncertainties in the composition of cosmetics entering the market, particularly those imported from outside the European Union, according to national broadcaster Yle.
Last year, customs authorities inspected 155 cosmetic products for compliance with regulations. Of these, 27 were rejected—23 of which originated from outside the EU—while 21 had minor errors, with 18 coming from non-EU countries.
The rejected products included sunscreens, makeup, and hair removal creams, customs officials stated.
Finnish authorities monitor commercial imports of consumer goods, but products purchased directly by consumers from foreign online retailers are not subject to the same oversight.
