The police investigation in Suðurland concerning a kidnapping and assault in Reykholt, Biskupstungur, which occurred in April, is still ongoing. Four Icelandic citizens were in custody at the height of the case due to a violent crime involving a Maltese national. No one has been in custody since early June.

Sources indicate that the victim was held hostage for several days, subjected to physical assault, and robbed. Chief Superintendent Jón Gunnar Þórhallsson reports that a significant amount of work is currently underway by the police to review evidence, and he does not expect the investigation to conclude anytime soon.
