Kuusamo Large Carnivore Center to open after delays due to construction issues
The Kuusamo Large Carnivore Center is set to open its doors later this week. Kaleva was the first to report on this development. According to CEO Pasi Jäntti, the opening has faced delays due to technical issues and challenges related to the construction work. Jäntti had previously mentioned to Yle that the center was expected to welcome visitors in early June.
“There is always some resistance; things haven’t gone as smoothly as we’d hoped,” Jäntti noted. He also emphasized that the care for the animals requires time and effort.
The facility has undergone significant renovations, including the removal of structures that were over thirty years old, and has introduced new areas for the animals. A café has also been updated. Before the official opening, tasks such as painting and planting flowers still need to be completed.
The operations of the large carnivore center were halted last summer following concerns from the regional administrative authority regarding poor animal care. However, after a decision from the administrative court published in the autumn, the center’s animal park license was reinstated.
