Kuusamo Large Predator Centre set to open doors after delays
The Kuusamo Large Predator Centre is set to open its doors later this week. The announcement of the opening was first reported by Kaleva. CEO Pasi Jäntti revealed that technical issues and challenges during construction have delayed the launch. He previously estimated to Yle that the center would be ready for public access by early June.
“There are always various types of opposition; it didn’t go as smoothly as one might have hoped. Caring for the animals also takes time,” Jäntti noted.
The centre has undergone extensive renovation, involving the demolition of structures that were over thirty years old and the construction of new facilities. Additionally, the café has been refurbished.
Before the grand opening, remaining tasks include painting and planting flowers. The operations of the Large Predator Centre had been halted last summer due to an assessment by the regional administration authority regarding the poor care of the animals. However, following a ruling by the administrative court published last fall, the centre has regained its zoo permit.
