Burglary at Heinola jewellery store as thief escapes police

A jewellery store in central Heinola was targeted by a burglar on Tuesday evening, with the suspect breaking in by smashing a window with a tray before fleeing from police, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

According to Senior Constable Petri Ikonen of Häme Police, the thief successfully evaded capture. “We do not yet know what was taken,” Ikonen stated. The break-in occurred at approximately 8:30 PM local time.

A passerby reported the incident to emergency services after witnessing the burglary. Police investigations will continue on Wednesday morning.
