Explosion at feed drying plant in Turku causes no injuries
A small explosion occurred at a feed drying facility near Turku Airport on Tuesday evening, according to the Southwest Finland Emergency Services. No injuries were reported.
The emergency services received a report of a collapse or explosion at around 7 pm local time. The incident took place in the Rydönnotko area, where several industrial buildings are located.
Duty officer Olli Högmander told public broadcaster Yle that the explosion happened inside a filter at the grain or feed drying plant. “We have opened the filter, and only a small fire remains,” he said.
The fire was contained within the filter, but emergency crews continued to inspect the site. Authorities suspect dust may have caused the explosion, though the exact ignition source remains unclear.
A total of 24 emergency response units were dispatched to the scene.
