A trial has begun in Oulu District Court against two key figures from the now-bankrupt Pohjois-Suomen Hirsitalokeskus, a log home manufacturer previously operating under the Mammuttikoti brand, Finnish public broadcaster Yle reports.

The defendants, linked to the company that filed for bankruptcy in October 2019, face charges of aggravated accounting offences, aggravated debtor dishonesty, and aggravated fraud. Prosecutors allege they falsified or misrepresented financial statements by approximately €2.6 million.

Additional charges include selling a personal leisure property to the company at an inflated price and misleading a real estate firm about the company’s financial health during its 2019 acquisition. The prosecution is seeking an unconditional prison sentence for one defendant and a suspended sentence plus fines for the other.

The case follows a 2023 police investigation into the company’s financial irregularities. The current business operating at the former Mammuttikoti facility in Ylikiiminki is unrelated to the trial.
