A Swedish member of parliament had his Facebook account hijacked after falling victim to a phishing scam, with the hackers subsequently posting child sexual abuse material on his page, SVT Nyheter reports.

Stefan Olsson, a lawmaker with the Moderate Party, confirmed the incident in a social media post on Sunday, writing: “My Facebook account was just hacked. Unfortunately, child pornography was posted there.”

Speaking to SVT, Olsson explained that he clicked a link sent to his party email address, believing it to be a legitimate request from Meta to verify his account. “I was careless,” he admitted. “In hindsight, you always feel so stupid, but at that moment, it seemed normal.”

The hackers gained access to his password and uploaded the material before Olsson received an alert about a profile picture change. He removed the content immediately but acknowledged it may have already spread. “It’s very unpleasant,” he said. “The hack itself I can live with—there’s nothing valuable on my Facebook that could be lost. But the fact that it was child abuse images… that’s deeply disturbing.”

Olsson stated he had not yet filed a police report, as the incident occurred late at night, but intended to do so. Meta has already taken security measures in response to the uploaded material. When asked if the case could be handled by Sweden’s special prosecutors’ office, he replied: “I’ll look into it, but I think I’m just a random victim—not personally targeted.”
