Greenland should take over its own air traffic control, says Icelandic report
A new report from Iceland’s transport authority recommends that Greenland assume full responsibility for managing its own air traffic control, according to a statement by Icelandic National Broadcasting Service RÚV.
The proposal follows years of Iceland overseeing air navigation services in Greenlandic airspace under a bilateral agreement. The report suggests that Greenland now has the capacity to handle the operations independently, citing advancements in local infrastructure and expertise.
If implemented, the transition would mark a shift in regional aviation governance, with Greenlandic authorities taking direct control of flight coordination and safety monitoring within their territory.
