Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson, former leader of the Left-Green Movement, will return to Iceland’s parliament after being nominated to replace a resigning MP, RÚV reports.

Guðbrandsson, who served as Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources from 2019 to 2021, steps in for Kolbrún Halldórsdóttir, who resigned her seat earlier this month. His return follows a party decision to place him next in line for parliamentary representation.

The Left-Green Movement currently holds eight seats in the 63-member Alþingi. Guðbrandsson’s prior political experience includes leading the party from 2013 to 2022 and serving as a cabinet minister in the coalition government under Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir.
