Faroese parliamentary election features 160 candidates across seven parties
A total of 160 candidates from seven political parties will contest the Faroese parliamentary election on 26 March, with the Union Party fielding the most nominees, national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The Union Party (Fólkaflokkurin) has nominated 34 candidates, while the Self-Government Party (Sjálvstýri) has put forward 10. The Union Party, Centre Party (Miðflokkurin), and Progress (Framsókn) each exceed the maximum list size of 27 candidates, requiring voters to select up to 27 names per party. The Social Democratic Party (Javnaðarflokkurin) and the Union Party (Sambandsflokkurin) have 29 candidates each, the Republic (Tjóðveldi) 27, Progress 14, and the Centre Party 17.
Under Faroese electoral rules, party lists may include up to 43 candidates, though voters may select no more than 27 per list. Full candidate lists are published on the [official election website](https://valurslit.fo).
The election will determine all 33 seats in the Løgting, the Faroe Islands’ unicameral parliament, with proportional representation deciding the distribution among parties.
