Local authorities have issued warnings after several small avalanches and precautionary evacuations were reported in the towns of Ísafjörður and Siglufjörður in Iceland’s Westfjords and North Iceland regions.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office has recorded increased avalanche risk due to recent snowfall and unstable snowpack conditions. Residents in high-risk zones have been advised to stay alert, with some areas temporarily evacuated as a preventive measure.

No injuries or significant property damage have been reported so far. Emergency response teams remain on standby, monitoring the situation closely. Authorities urge the public to follow official guidance and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.

Both Ísafjörður and Siglufjörður are located in regions known for steep terrain and frequent winter avalanches. Local infrastructure, including roads and critical services, has been designed with avalanche risks in mind, but extreme weather can still pose hazards.
