Mayor criticises delays in Faroese land registry decisions
The mayor of Sunda Municipality has condemned lengthy processing times at the Faroese Land Registry Office, calling them “far too slow” and a barrier to local housing development.
Eyðstein Zachariassen, mayor of Sunda, stated that the delays in resolving land registry disputes (matrikulviðurskifti) are obstructing progress. “It takes far too long to get these cases settled,” he told Faroese National Broadcasting (KVF), arguing that the situation hampers housing construction in the area.
The Land Registry Office, responsible for recording property boundaries and ownership in the Faroe Islands, has faced criticism over administrative bottlenecks in recent years.
