Faroese election debates begin with live event from Suðuroy
A live election debate, known as Trapputingið, will air tonight from Salti in Suðuroy, marking the first of four regional debates ahead of the Faroese parliamentary elections. Voters will have the opportunity to question candidates on key political priorities for the next four years.
The event, broadcast at 19:20 local time on Faroese national television, will feature Erhard Joensen of the Union Party (Sambandsflokkurin), Jóhan M. Stenberg of the Self-Government Party (Sjálvstýri), and Dennis Holm of the Republic Party (Tjóðveldi). A live blog will accompany the broadcast on the website of Kringvarp Føroya (KVF), the Faroese national broadcaster, allowing party representatives to respond to voter concerns in real time.
Three additional debates are scheduled before the election:
– March 16 (Monday): Tórshavn, 20:00
– March 18 (Wednesday): Klaksvík, 19:00
– March 22 (Sunday): Oyrasund, 19:00
The debates provide a platform for voters in different regions to directly engage with candidates on local and national issues, from infrastructure projects to social policies. Tonight’s event in Suðuroy is expected to address topics such as ferry connections, tunnel projects, and regional equality.
