Molde secured a dominant 2-0 victory over Rosenborg in the opening match of the Norwegian Eliteserien season. The win marks a strong start for Molde, while Rosenborg faces criticism for a lackluster performance.

Rosenborg’s captain, Jonas Svensson, acknowledged the team’s poor performance, particularly in the second half. “It’s tough. Losing is one thing, but the way we lost—and especially the second half—is far from what we expect from ourselves,” Svensson said to NRK.

Rosenborg’s coach, Alfred Johansson, also expressed dissatisfaction. “I think we are too far behind in terms of pressure. I think we lack the courage to play, and it’s far below our level,” Johansson told the press after the match.

Experts were equally critical. TV 2’s commentator Simen Stamsø Møller described Rosenborg’s performance as “helpless and hopeless, especially after the break. There is no spark and no joy in playing. Defensively, they do not work together at all.”

NRK’s expert Carl-Erik Torp was not surprised by Molde’s victory. “Molde has looked good in winter training and in their first cup match against Glimt,” he said.

Molde’s goals were scored by Eirik Hestad, who elegantly placed the ball past Rosenborg’s goalkeeper Leopold Wahlstedt in the 61st minute. With Viking’s loss to HamKam earlier on Saturday, Molde is currently leading the Eliteserien.
