Fuel prices hit nordjyske transport company hard
The war in the Middle East has driven up oil prices, significantly impacting a nordjyske transport company.
Jesper Bundgaard Madsen, director of Vendelbo Spedition in Hjørring, manages 80 trucks that each travel approximately 120,000 kilometers annually. The rising fuel costs are taking a toll on the business.
“We have to try to regulate ourselves a bit and pass the bill on to our customers, otherwise we will die,” said Madsen.
The company refuels with around three million liters of diesel annually. The increased costs are particularly noticeable when transporting goods to supermarkets.
Madsen noted that the company adjusts prices monthly, but the rapid increase in fuel costs is challenging. He added that if fuel prices were to decrease, the savings would be passed on to customers.
Vendelbo Spedition’s trucks transport a variety of goods, including daily necessities, kitchens, and industrial machinery to Sweden, Germany, and Denmark. The long distances traveled make the company particularly vulnerable to fuel price fluctuations.
Madsen warned that the increased fuel costs could lead to higher prices for goods in supermarkets.
