Danish train commuters are increasingly frustrated by persistent delays and cancellations, with punctuality rates failing to meet targets for several months.

Tobias Viftrup Cramer, a regular commuter from Børkop to Odense, has incorporated checking train schedules into his morning routine due to frequent disruptions. He prefers traveling by train as it allows him to work during the journey, but the unreliable service has forced him to work from home twice a week to ensure he can pick up his daughter from daycare on time.

In February, only 59.9% of long-distance and regional trains arrived within three minutes of their scheduled time, well below DSB’s target of 75%. The company acknowledges the issues, attributing them to ongoing construction work and maintenance.

Lars Nygaard Moltke, another commuter from Svendborg to Odense, relies on trains to reach his job at Odense University Hospital. Delays can cause a domino effect, impacting patients and colleagues. He keeps a backup car as a precaution but prefers the tranquility and productivity of train travel.

DSB’s information chief, Tony Bispeskov, acknowledges the challenges but emphasizes that ongoing improvements will ultimately enhance the railway system. He expresses regret for the inconvenience caused in February.
