Weather warning issued for heavy rain and strong winds in northern Iceland
A yellow weather warning has been in effect since midnight for the Strandir region and western North Iceland due to heavy rainfall and strong winds. The warning also extends to eastern North Iceland due to westerly winds and sharp gusts.
Significant rain and brisk wind gusts are expected on the Tröllaskagi peninsula and in the western Skagafjörður area. Authorities have flagged an increased risk of landslides and rockfalls in steep terrain.
The alerts will remain in place for Strandir and western North Iceland until 3 PM, while the warning for eastern North Iceland is effective until 6 PM.
Looking ahead, the forecast indicates a shift to lighter southerly winds and persistent rainfall in the coming days. Conversely, northeastern regions may experience little to no precipitation, with generally pleasant temperatures expected in the north and east.
