Lantmäteriet has been criticized for disclosing sensitive information without required confidentiality assessments through its online services until May, as reported earlier. The agency’s director general, Susanne Ås Sivborg, faced a parliamentary civil committee on Tuesday to discuss the implications of the incident. However, she refrained from answering questions about the meeting’s discussions.

Jennie Nilsson, a member of the civil committee, expressed concern about the situation, stating that while a summary of events and measures taken has been provided, many questions remain unanswered. Nilsson indicated uncertainty about Ås Sivborg’s continued role as director general, highlighting the risks that have forced Lantmäteriet to suspend digital services and implement a “complete halt” on information sharing. This disruption poses significant challenges for community construction and planning.

During this meeting, it was revealed that Ås Sivborg reportedly attempted to downplay the extent of the security leaks when discussing the matter with government officials. In May, the agency’s former security chief advised shutting down digital services due to the presence of classified military information in the archive. A question regarding communication strategy with the government was posed to Ås Sivborg, who indicated that the full scope of the issue was intentionally not shared, framing it as a strategic decision.

In a statement, she contended that the portrayal of events does not accurately reflect the work and decisions made within the agency.
