In a significant ruling, a man in his fifties has been sentenced to six years in prison in connection with a drug trafficking case referred to as the Sólheimajökull case. Eighteen individuals faced charges, with two receiving five-year sentences, another two sentenced to four years, and two women each handed three-year terms.

The case, processed in the Reykjavik District Court, involved serious allegations of drug trafficking and organized crime. The name of the case originates from discussions among a group on the messaging platform Signal, where they reportedly communicated about drug smuggling and trade, linked to the name Sólheimajökull.

Among the other defendants, Haukur Ægir Hauksson and Skarphéðinn Jóhannsson were both sentenced to five years. Haukur is in his forties, while Skarphéðinn celebrated his seventieth birthday last year. Pétur Þór Elíasson and Árni Stefán Ásgeirsson received four-year sentences, and Valgerður Sif Sigurðardóttir and Tinna Kristín Gísladóttir were both sentenced to three years in prison.

Further updates on the case are expected as the situation develops.
