Aid organizations report rising requests for help despite stable poverty risk in the Faroe Islands
Increasingly, aid organizations are receiving more requests for help from individuals facing financial difficulties, yet this trend does not reflect in the statistics regarding poverty risk rates.
According to Kári Holm Johannesen, a department head at Statistics Faroe Islands, the poverty risk currently stands at around seven to eight percent, a figure that has remained stable since 2019. In prior years, the poverty risk was higher, fluctuating between nine and ten percent.
Johannesen emphasizes the necessity for further research to gain a better understanding of the situation. The topic was discussed in detail during a recent broadcast, shedding light on the apparent disconnect between rising requests for aid and stable poverty risk statistics.
Efforts to obtain comments from Sirið Stenberg, the Minister of Social Affairs, were unsuccessful.
