Sigríður appointed new mayor of Ísafjörður after recent elections
Sigríður Júlía Brynleifsdóttir has been appointed as the new mayor of Ísafjörður, following the recent elections that saw her predecessor, Arna Lára Jónsdóttir, elected to the national parliament. Arna Lára had served as mayor since 2022.
Sigríður has been active in local governance as a member of the town council and has held positions as both the council president and chair of the planning and infrastructure committee. In addition to her political roles, she has recently worked as the principal of the Adult Education School in Flateyri, and has previous experience with the Forestry Service.
She is set to officially take office as mayor on January 7.
