Online orders from China surge 1,228 percent as EU consumers seek affordable goods

The volume of goods ordered online from outside the EU, each valued up to 150 euros, surged dramatically during the January to October period compared to the previous year, according to customs data. Nearly 98 percent of these shipments originated from China, with a staggering 22.7 million orders placed, up from just 1.7 million the year before, reflecting a remarkable increase of 1,228 percent.

In terms of total monetary value, the goods ordered from China that were priced under 150 euros reached 137.6 million euros during the same period, marking a 597 percent rise from the previous year. This explosive growth highlights a significant shift in online shopping behaviors, with consumers increasingly turning to Chinese retailers for affordable products.
