Weather warnings issued for multiple regions in Iceland as snowfall and strong winds approach
Weather warnings are set to be issued across various regions of the country tomorrow evening. Yellow weather alerts will take effect on Monday evening in southern and western areas, beginning at 14:00 in Faxaflói and South Iceland. Forecasts indicate significant snowfall accompanied by wind gusts ranging from 15 to 23 meters per second.
A yellow warning for the capital region will go into effect at 18:00 the same evening, with snow expected and winds averaging between 13 to 20 meters per second. Conditions could deteriorate, especially in higher elevated areas, making travel difficult due to blustery conditions and heavy snowfall.
Alerts will also be issued for the Westfjords, Breiðafjörður, Southeast Iceland, and the Highlands, where travel conditions are anticipated to be perilous due to strong winds and snowfall. Travel on mountain roads may become particularly hazardous, and the warnings are expected to remain in place until early Tuesday morning.
