Severe weather warnings issued for Strönd, northwest and northeast Iceland due to heavy rain and strong winds

Monday 22nd 2024 on 09:17 in
Iceland

A yellow weather warning has been in effect since midnight for the Strönd region and northwest Iceland due to heavy rainfall and strong winds. Additionally, warnings are in place for northeast Iceland because of a westerly airflow and sharp wind gusts. Significant rain and intense wind are expected in the Tröllaskagi peninsula and the western Skagafjörður area. There is an increased risk of landslides and rockfalls in steep slopes. These warnings will remain in effect for Strönd and northwest Iceland until 3 PM, and for northeast Iceland until 6 PM.

Looking ahead, the forecast indicates a shift to lighter winds from the south and persistent wet conditions for the coming days. Conversely, the northeastern regions can expect little to no precipitation and relatively mild temperatures.
