Danes to enjoy reduced electricity bills as Advent season begins
Today marks not only the beginning of the Advent season for many Danes, but also a reduction in electricity bills for nearly two million customers across the nation, effective from December 1. This includes one million households and businesses served by Radius, which operates in Copenhagen and parts of Zealand, as well as 800,000 customers of N1, catering to areas in Jutland.
Radius has announced this will be the fourth price cut in two years, with recent reductions including approximately 18% in March 2023, around 20% in October, and another 7-8% in August. The current reduction is about 15%. For instance, a household consuming 4,000 kWh annually from Radius will now save approximately 1,425 DKK compared to peak prices recorded in February 2023 during the energy crisis.
The decline in electricity rates is attributed to the resolution of the energy crisis, which has significantly influenced the sector. Radius has stated that the current prices align with the levels seen prior to the crisis.
In addition, N1’s customers will also enjoy reduced rates, particularly beneficial during the holiday season with a 59% reduction in December tariff prices, resulting in an expected average saving of 130 DKK for families. Starting next year, the tariff will be permanently lowered by 21%.
Experts stress the importance of maintaining energy-saving habits, suggesting that consumers should remain vigilant about energy use to maximize savings. Utilizing energy-efficient appliances, particularly smaller kitchen devices instead of ovens, can also contribute to lower electricity costs. Electric vehicle owners are encouraged to monitor prices to identify the cheapest charging times.
