Mjøndalen secures victory against Jerv with late goal from Solberg in Grimstad
Joackim Olsen Solberg’s late goal secured a 2-1 victory for Mjøndalen against Jerv in their first qualification match last weekend, marking the club legend’s final home game for the team. In the decisive match held in Grimstad, Mjøndalen triumphed 3-1, resulting in a 5-2 aggregate score. This win ensures Mjøndalen will compete in Norway’s OBOS-ligaen for the 2025 season.
The away team dominated the match, and following their earlier 2-1 victory, Jerv needed to push forward to score. However, Mjøndalen set the pace from the start. In the 34th minute, Alie Conteh netted the opener with an assist from captain Solberg, and the score remained 1-0 at halftime, with Mjøndalen largely in control. Mathias Bringaker doubled the lead in the second half, again assisted by Solberg.
Though Jerv created a moment of hope when Josias Furaha pulled one back to make it 2-1, Erik Brenden quickly responded, sealing the deal at 3-1, a result that held until the final whistle. Mjøndalen’s performance was convincing, and Jerv has now resigned to another season in the PostNord-ligaen.
The 2025 season has been a rollercoaster for Mjøndalen, featuring few high points amidst a struggle to avoid relegation. A standout moment occurred in late May when they defeated Vålerenga, leading 5-1 before finishing at 5-3. However, points were deducted due to player eligibility issues, intensifying their relegation fears. Despite these challenges, Mjøndalen surprised many by defeating strong opponents in their final matches, ultimately securing their place in the next season.
