Katriina Hiippavuori switches allegiance from Christian Democrats to National Coalition Party in Finland
A prominent politician who previously served as an aide to Finland’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayahi has switched allegiance from the Christian Democrats to the National Coalition Party. Katriina Hiippavuori, the vice-chair of the Christian Democratic Party since the summer of 2023, cites the opportunity for greater influence within the National Coalition Party as one of the primary reasons for her move.
She expressed concerns about the discussions surrounding the Middle East conflict, which she found distressing within her former party. “The views on the situation in the Middle East were largely characterized by Christian Zionism among the Christian Democrats, and I felt there was little room for alternative perspectives,” Hiippavuori stated.
Looking ahead, Katriina Hiippavuori plans to run as a candidate for the National Coalition Party in the upcoming municipal and regional elections in the province of Southwest Finland. In addition to her candidacy, she will begin working in January as a political communications planner for the National Coalition Party in the same region.
