Meeting postponed in Skúvoyar Municipality amid electoral investigation
A meeting that was scheduled for yesterday has been postponed to this evening due to one member’s absence, according to Poul Osmund Tórarenni, the mayor until January 1st.
The Ministry of Justice is currently investigating a situation regarding irregularities during the municipal election in Skúvoyar Municipality. The complaint discusses issues such as the lack of continuous supervision at the polling station throughout the voting period and the unavailability of ballots, which forced residents to vote by mail instead.
Tórarenni expressed that this situation is unfortunate but emphasized that all those who intended to vote were able to do so. He reassured that the voting process was not adversely affected and that the election results remained valid despite the mistake, explaining that voters had to resort to a different method of voting.
The outgoing municipal council will discuss the matter at this evening’s meeting at seven and will forward their conclusions to the Ministry of Justice.
In total, 34 individuals were eligible to vote in Skúvoyar Municipality, with 30 casting their ballots. Harry Jensen received 14 votes, Jóannes í Hoygarðinum secured ten, and Jákup Andreas Thomsen garnered four votes.
