Christian Democrats appoint Mika Poutala as new Minister of Sports in Helsinki

The Christian Democrats party has appointed Mika Poutala, a member of parliament from Espoo, as the new Minister of Sports, Youth, and Physical Activity. This decision was made during a joint meeting of the party council and parliamentary group held in Helsinki on Saturday.

During the coalition negotiations in June 2023, it was agreed that the Swedish People’s Party (RKP) and the Christian Democrats would alternate the ministerial position throughout the term. The transfer of duties will take place at the midpoint of the government term. Currently, the position is held by Sandra Bergqvist from the RKP.

In his address, Poutala emphasized the significance of this historically pivotal ministerial role for the Christian Democrats. “This is a joyful and historic moment for all of us in the party, and it is something we can take pride in,” he stated.
