A volcanic eruption continues at the Sundhnúkur crater, with lava flowing east and southeast towards Sandhól and Fagradalsfjall. Concerns about gas pollution remain in Grindavík, prompting authorities to advise caution for hikers in the area.

According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office’s natural hazards monitoring, the activity at the site has shown stability similar to recent days. Seismic readings support this observation. Last night, gas pollution was recorded exceeding health safety limits at a monitoring station at Húsafell, situated east of Grindavík.

In light of this, the meteorological office has highlighted the importance of safety for hikers and visitors in the vicinity. Today’s weather forecast indicates northern and northeast winds at the eruption sites, with increasing wind speeds expected. This pattern will carry pollutants towards the south and southwest, affecting areas such as Grindavík. Visitors are urged to stay informed and exercise vigilance while in the region.
