Samfylkingin party leads in Iceland poll ahead of parliamentary elections
In a recent poll conducted ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Iceland, the Samfylkingin party has regained its position as the leading political force, recording 21.2% support. This marks a slight increase of nearly one percentage point compared to the previous survey. The Independence Party has also strengthened its support, rising to 17.6%, gaining over three percentage points since the last poll.
The latest figures reveal that Viðreisn has experienced a drop in support, falling by two percentage points to 17.2%. Despite this decline, the party had previously seen an increase in a different poll where it measured at 17.6%. Meanwhile, the Centre Party maintains stable support at 11.2% according to the new survey, while the People’s Party saw its backing decrease from 10.8% to 9.1%. Interestingly, the People’s Party did report a rise in another poll, reaching 12.6%, marking the highest growth for a single party in that survey.
The poll in question was conducted on November 28 and 29, with the participation of 2,908 respondents, reflecting shifting political sentiments as the elections approach. It shows that the Samfylkingin and Viðreisn parties are witnessing a reduction in their backers, whereas the Progress Party and the People’s Party are experiencing a resurgence in support. Notably, the polling results demonstrate a competitive landscape as candidates prepare for this pivotal election, with significant implications for Iceland’s future political direction.
