In a recent nationwide poll conducted by Gallup leading up to the 2024 parliamentary elections, the Samfylking party remains the most popular choice, garnering 20% support. The Independence Party has also seen an uptick, currently positioned as the second largest party with 18.4%. Support for the Reform Party and the People’s Party has risen, while the Central Party has experienced a significant decline.

This poll, which serves as the final assessment before the elections, highlights a consistent downward trend for Samfylking, particularly since Kristrún Frostadóttir assumed leadership over two years ago. In contrast, the Reform Party has increased its support to 17.6%, now the third largest party. The People’s Party is also on the rise, recording a 12.6% backing.

The Central Party, however, has lost the most ground, dropping to 11.1% from 14.3% in the last poll. Meanwhile, the Left-Green Movement stands at 3.1% and the Socialist Party is at 4.8%. The Pirate Party has a slightly lower support at 4.1%, but would secure one constituency seat through Lenya Rún Taha Karim in North Reykjavik. The Democracy Party has just 1.4% support and the Future Responsibility Party, which only contests in North Reykjavik, registered no support from poll participants.

The survey was conducted from November 23 to 29, with a sample size of 4,285 and a participation rate of 53.7%. Comparisons with past polling trends indicate that party support can fluctuate significantly as elections approach.
