Negotiations between Iceland’s Medical Association and the government have seen progress, according to the association’s president, Steinunn Þórðardóttir. While an agreement has not been finalized yet, the first round of planned strikes has been canceled.
Initially scheduled to begin at midnight tonight and continue through Thursday, the strikes were put on hold as discussions moved closer toward a resolution. Steinunn mentioned that while significant progress has been made, the parties are not at the stage of signing an agreement this evening.
Steinunn stated in a recent interview that the leadership of the Medical Association determined it was appropriate to call off the first round of strikes. Meetings are set to continue through tonight and into tomorrow morning, as there is optimism about reaching a satisfactory conclusion.
The Medical Association remains hopeful that ongoing discussions will lead to an agreement that satisfies all involved.
