The newly formed municipal council of Sjóvar Municipality is now under the leadership of Hans Anders Jacobsen, marking a significant shift following the recent elections. Noomi Káradóttir Rasmussen, the top candidate from the women’s list, expressed her concerns about the council’s formation process.

In the new council, Jacobsen will serve as mayor for the next four years, while the former mayor, Arthur Johansen, will take on the role of deputy mayor. Jacobsen was the top candidate on List B, which secured four council seats, whereas the women’s list, List A, managed to obtain three seats.

Interestingly, the recent press release from the municipality highlighted that Noomi Káradóttir Rasmussen has not been allocated any committee positions within the council, while her colleagues from the women’s list, Sandra Ljósá Østerø and Drós Ellingsgaard, have been appointed to committees.

Rasmussen noted that there was an agreement to form a broad majority within the newly elected council, which included an expectation for her to receive three committee positions as the top candidate of the women’s list. However, she could not accept that the inaugural council meeting, held yesterday, took place behind closed doors, leading to her protest. Consequently, the remaining six council members proceeded to finalize their organization without her participation.
