New event arena planned for Kivistö in Vantaa with expected launch by 2027
A new event arena is set to move forward in Kivistö, Vantaa, with decision-making scheduled for December. The project, named Arena 3.3, involves discussions regarding land lease and property agreements as part of the planning process. According to a recent meeting by the Vantaa City Planning Board, everything appears to be progressing smoothly, with plans to bring the matter to the city council in early December. The aim is to finalize agreements with the city in the first quarter of the coming year.
Pepe Perkiö, a partner and board member of Arena 3.3, has stated that the goal is to launch operations at the arena by early 2027. The total estimated investment for the project is around €200 million, funded entirely through private investments. The city of Vantaa has previously identified this event arena as one of its major initiatives for the upcoming years, designed to host concerts for 21,000 attendees and sports events accommodating approximately 17,000 spectators. The project’s footprint covers about four hectares.
Kivistö is situated in west Vantaa along critical transport routes, including the Kehärata rail line and major highways. Earlier this year, the city approved alterations to the zoning plan, which were scaled down due to concerns from environmental authorities about traffic impacts tied to larger stadium proposals. This adjustment has resulted in a more financially viable project that also mitigates transportation issues, according to Perkiö.
Additionally, the Helsinki Arena located in Ilmala has recently been sold to a Finnish real estate investment firm, pending governmental approval. Perkiö expresses confidence in the demand for multiple event arenas in the capital region, noting that development efforts for the Vantaa project began in 2018, well before the opening of any competing venues.
