Kindergarten teachers vote in favor of strike action across Iceland starting December 10
Strike actions are set to commence in ten kindergartens across the country starting December 10, unless negotiations are successfully concluded by that date.
Today, kindergarten teachers have voted in favor of a strike announcement that covers various regions. The ballot, which began yesterday and concluded today, indicated an overwhelming majority support for the strike, according to the Icelandic Teachers’ Association.
In total, strikes have either started or have been announced at 27 educational institutions, which includes kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, and one music school.
The ten kindergartens that will be affected by the upcoming strike include Hulduheimar in Akureyri, Höfðaberg in Mosfellsbær, Lundaból in Garðabær, Lyngheimar, Lyngholt, and Óskaland in Reykjavík, as well as Rauðhóll in Reykjavík, Stakkaborg in Reykjavík, Teigasel in Akranes, and the kindergarten in Snæfellsbær.
As these events unfold, the educational sector faces significant challenges that could impact early childhood education services across the nation. With the strike looming, discussions and negotiations will be crucial in determining the future landscape for educational staff and students alike.
